Why do Eels hibernate ?

I am writing an information report on eels because I want to know why they hibernate during winter. I did some research and they hibernate during winter because of the colder water temperatures .

They hibernate by burying themselves in mud in back waters ( Backwaters are a part of a river that is not reached by the current ) and in swampy areas and they will lay dormant until spring.

Eels are dormant till spring because temperatures drop and the food source is low but the odd eel is still swimming about.

When an eel lays dormant they cover themselves in a slimy case and slow down there blood circulation.

I now know why eels hibernate during winter and I hope you learnt something to.
